Forks -
11-10-2008, 10:45 AM
I've done alto of research on this, The CR 80 even the KX 65 have to much travel to keep the bike balanced. If you compare the fork rake to a 1981 ct with stock shock length (335mm) fork length around (605mm). So about 630mm (from top to center of axle) fork with 6" travel with a 340mm shock is about max without throwing there balance off or tire to fender clearance. If you extend the swing arm 38mm it only raises the rear end about a 13mm. Not saying you can not shorten the fork ,but it might be easier to source one of like a King Cobra or some bike like that. Also I can get top triple clamps in different diameter and I'm working on longer swing arms. The picture is a 1985 XR 80 fork.

Thanks greg looks awesome! I think the trick is getting the cr80forks cut down to 125mm travel. The flat track guys do it!
we need to see how the flat track guys do it |

I'm sure it could be done, Another fork to look at would be off a KTM 65 that way the over all length would not be to long and you would only have to shorten the travel 2 inches. I like the way your thinking, There's way to have top notch suspension without breaking the bank, Rear shocks is the tough one your looking at least $300 all day long to get something descent. And the vintage CR,KX,ect 80 shock are usually shot and I don't think you can get parts to rebuild them anymore.
