So, a month ago I installed TB 88cc BB kit w/ race head and cam and a 22mm carb, and thumper exhaust on my 1970 CT70 KO 3spd auto. It turned out great with everyone's help, thank you, and I bumped all around Santa Barbara, CA (So. cal kinda, sunny beachy). A week ago I moved up to Bellingham,WA (border of Wa/Canada, on the puget sound) and hauled my CT in the back of a truck. Today I took it for a spin and it fired up nicely and I got about 8 blocks before it bogged down and quit. I pulled it over and after about 15 kicks (choke on/off) it fired up again but began to bogg down, so I put the coke back in and it allowed it to rev up a bit before it began to bogg down and die. I couldn't get it to start again and had to push it home.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? I'm guessing the carb or maybe fuel lines, but everything worked perfectly before the haul up and it only took 19hrs drive time. Would rain make a difference? The elevation should be the same, what's the deal?

Also, does anyone know of a shop that works on trail bikes near Bellingham,Wa? I'm about 1.25hrs North of Seattle. Thanks!

Just a thought, . . . I've had the same sort of thing happen when my points closed up while riding. It was on my first ride after it sat for 5-6 weeks. A little bit of rust had formed on the point cam and it sanded down the rubbing block on the points. I reset the points and it happened again, so I pulled the flywheel and found the rust. I went to work on it with some 600 grit and put it all back together, and that solved the problem. Can't hurt to check.

I'm in Washington State too. I'm out at Whidbey Island (30 minutes from Mt Vernon). I'm up here on a detachment with the Navy.

Anyways.......I bet is you left the gas cap in the closed/off postion. If that's not it, than your carb float might be stuck.

I have this happen at least once every season...either forget to open the cap vent or switch the fuel petcock to "run". Not saying it couldn't be a points issue, as Miniac mentioned. But, the choke making a difference, then total no-go, sounds like gas not getting into the bowl. My bike makes it about three-quarters of a mile before the problems begin, usually with bogging that gets progressively worse.

I just hauled an old Harley Sprint 250 home from Pa, and in the rain all the way. When I go the bike home, I didn't think much of it at first, but after it wouldn't start, I found water in the fuel, the carb, and in the crankcase, the oil looked like a coffee milkshake!
Any chance you got water in the system?
