condenser issue -
11-16-2008, 11:44 PM
Hey--probably a dumb question, but I am replacing the points and condenser on my ct70 (1970 model KO), and had to use my solder iron to get the old wires off.
I am getting ready to put on the new condenser, and a local mechanic said DON'T solder the wires on, cause it will ruin the condenser. Should I just crimp on the wires, or should I actually solder them. Any suggestions? ![]() |

If you don't solder it, you can expect problems, that's a pretty hostile location for electrical connections. Just use care with the heat. Crimp one tang, apply heat until the solder just flows, then remove the soldering gun; crimp the remaining side and you're done. It is possible to overheat the connection and ruin the condensor, you'd have to be really ham-fisted to do that.
