I wouldn't call myself a CL70 expert by any means. However, unless you absolutely must have an engine with a "CT70HExxxxx" serial number, the CL motor is a better unit. Of all the various pre-1975 iterations of the Honda 72cc single, this one had the highest factory power rating. A healthy CL70 was a 50mph bike in bone stock form. So, you've got a 4-speed, manual clutch engine with centrifugal sprak advance and the hottest OE cam profile, what's not to like? There is only one oddball aspect to this engine, the flywheel & stator (and the crank, too, I imagine) do not interchange with any other engine, unless transplanted as a complete assembly. I suppose that you could always find the LH case half from a totally ragged-out CT70 HK1 motor and have the best of all possible worlds. Everything else is generic 6V 49-72cc Honda. To realize the full top speed potential of this motor, you may have to experiment with sprocket combos. If the engine is at least in rebuildable shape, then I'd consider it a lucky find.
