New Guy Help -

Hello all!
I just aquired a 1970 CT70. - Excited I found it wouldn't start. - Excitement is starting to fade. Checked spark off the block...seemed good. Drained the gas...put in new gas - no go.. I gave it a shot of starting fluid still no go... I pulled the carb and found that the small flapper attached to the choke mechanism was broken...just kind of hanging there by one of the two hanger brackets... If anyone has an old junk carb I could buy this piece off of I would surely appreciate it!! (jackofonetrade@yahoo.com) With the carb off I then attempted to reset the timing...finally got it to fire off twice with starter fluid and put it all back together. Tried to start it again...and you guessed it no go. Tried opening the carb and draining it out, tried a new plug, tried starting fluid, tried moving the key switch to the 2nd position instead of the first position, and tried again....notihing. I am stumped. I am not so confident that I have good consistent fire as I was pretty confident that it should have fired on the starting fluid if I was getting a good spark. Ideas? Thanks! Greg |

Check your points. Either sand them a little or replace them, along with your condensor. You will need a flywheel puller to do this. Just replacing the gas with new stuff will not help your carb out. You have to unscrew the jets inside the carb and make sure you can see light through the tiny holes. Generous amounts of carb cleaner are needed for this. You also have to remove and clean out the little filter screen on the carb. Adjust and make sure your intake and exhaust valve clearancws are correct. Do this only when the engine is cold. If you got gas, spark, and compression it has to run.
