1978 ct 70 -
01-04-2009, 05:09 PM
I have one now, but a friend who likes mine would like to buy one has asked me these questions and I have no idea. He also aske if that was one of the popular later models and I just don't know the answers. I have been looking on ebay for some time to try and determine value, both buying and selling with no luck so I thought I would ask here..

Production numbers can not be found. If they were out there, I'm certain someone on this website would have found them and shared them with the rest of us. That questions comes up a lot but, no one has come up with hard facts or numbers. My guess is the height of the mini-trail craze and production was the early 70's and tapered off as the years passed.
I'd also venture a guess and say the 1969-1971 3 speeds and 1970-1972 4 speeds are some of the most desirable. The KO were the first made and the HKO/HK1 were the only 4 speed models ever made. If you posted a picture of your bike on here. We could give you an estimate of the going sale price of an identical model. Many of us on here have search Ebay and Craigslist almost daily and have a good grasp on the fair market value of one of these gems. 1978 Value -

Thank You Hornetgod...I did not realize that a 78 would be worth that much. It is a great bike, starts easily and runs really strong. I always get a lot of compliments whenever I have it out. I wish I had an idea on how many were produced that year....I also have a ST50 German bike, not an export that I will post pics of, I know it is an early bike. A US serviceman bought it while stationed there and when he was about to be discharged boxed it up and sent it to his parents home where it sat for 32 years. (it was reassembled). It is the finest true German ST that I have ever seen. The decals are all in German. I had the motor completely rebuilt by a 30 year Honda mechanic... He did a fantastic job with it. I bought it from his parents, and also the 69 CT70 #650 that he had when he was a kid. The serviceman had been killed shortly after returning home. His parents said that he had loved the CT so much that when he got to Germany and saw the ST's he had to have one in the same color to remind him of home! If anyone knows the market value of the ST, I would appreciate knowing. Several years ago I saw one on ebay sell for $2,800, but I have never seen another like this in the US. Thanks Again

Honda will not release official production numbers. The K0's and K1's were made in huge numbers. We can determine production by analyzing the vin number ranges Honda gave us.
In fact, I've already done this and from the following link, you'll be able to determine production #'s for the 1978 models. Some years have a definate range, while others do not. While there is no way to ever verify production numbers, the numbers we show techinically should be pretty close. No possible way to break down by color and no real way to break down the K0's from HK0's and K1's from HK1's. The lowest production was the 1991-1994 12V CDI CT70's.
