KO owners manual - 12-17-2008, 12:26 AM

I recently purchased an original owners manual off C.R. from an elderly gentleman, I have never seen any owners manuals for a CT personally, either repro or original, are the early ones different? I find a few differences from my '70 KO, as well as a couple of typos, the back cover says '69.7 SM A15, is this the same as a repro I might buy? it is in pretty nice shape,no rips, covers are good, but if its different than what I would want for my 6/70 KO or 2/71HKO, a purist might have better appreciation for it.

The KO and HKO owners manuals are entirely different. I have a HKO owners manual.

Here's a link to the CT70KO owners manual.......

Thanks for that link. mine is almost exactly the same but must be one of the first ones printed, because it has some things different and in the section on the fuel tank it says"the capacity of the reserve is sufficient to travel approximatly 100 miles on reserve appears inacurate. since reserve capacity is 0.5 qt. machine would get 800 miles to the gallon." thats exactly how it is written in the manual, must have been an early typo! there are a couple other differences but mostly this is the same manual. I'll keep it for my KO. Thanks again Hornet

Yeah,I wish! actually they say should get it by xmas, can't wait! But the weather really changed around here lately, got some snow and ice for awhile, so I would'nt be able to try it out for sometime anyway. I need to get my HK1 out and get it ready to sell, that is a priority for now.

So Bill, I see my new CT is a clone of what you had when you were a kid, I will probably be picking your brain when I get mine, since you have restored one and had one in the day, I was lucky to get my original red KO back, originally bought in 1975 and still has the original title and Oregon plates, 1600 miles, all it really needed was a seat, and the exhaust was rusted through at the clamp, bought all new muffler from NEVC for a great deal, and that seat from you(going to keep the original, for a future project, but it is cracked pretty bad)probably change out the tires too. other than that, will keep it as is.Will always be my favorite because of the history(staying with me!)

You're right, the bike you just bought is a mirror image of my bike of yester-year. When I went about getting another CT70, I wanted to find an identical topaz orange four speed like the one I rode as a kid. I searched a couple months on Ebay and Craigslist until I found a beat up Emerald Green four speed. I had a tough time deciding on the color but, eventually kept it green. I still have a place in my heart for a Topaz Orange HKO. All the childhood memories come rushing back when I see one. My Dad sold the old one back in 92' when I was overseas in the Navy. He sold it for $200-$300. Once I heard, I asked him why, He said the headlight was broken. I damn near cried. I'd give anything to have that bike back.

Based on the pictures and description of the HKO you're getting, I doubt you'll need my help. Looks complete. I would have bought it too if I wasn't afraid of the wife's reaction.

I think the Green and the Topaz orange complement each other. I see an Orange one in your future.

If I get an orange one it will come with a divorce. My wife is not as understanding as yours.

Seriously, My Grandfather had a 1973 Topaz Orange CT70K2 that he rode around until he passed away in 94'. It's still sitting untouched in my Grandmother's garage. I hope to get it once she passes away to restore and keep in rememberance of him. I don't have the heart to ask for it now. It reminds my Grandmother of him so much.
