eBay Beware...! - 12-16-2008, 09:59 PM

No matter how nice it looks or how well described - beware! I bought this complete wheel and...I knew I had a problem when the bearing and collar fell out when I removed it from the shipping box:

So the bearing fit all the way seated without having to be tapped in? And they definatly should not pop out that easy. I would check the inside diameter with a caliper.

I'm curious, what was the seller's feedback rating? Have you tried to contact them about the problem? What's the seller's Ebay name?

Although the hub appears real sweet, its shot. Very curious how that could happen. I did have a bearing spin in is race on a Honda CB750 once (yeah, years <decades?> ago) and it screamed like nothing I've ever heard. 'Bout jumped off the damn thing even though we were doing 70 on the freeway...

Now there's a story. I contacted him as soon as I unpacked the box and everything fell on the floor. I already had a set of bearings in route so I (and he) wanted to try that. Second time I tried to contact him and ask for compensation, he went quiet. Now in PayPal dispute where I don't hold much faith. Also contacted my cc company. I don't believe he sells CT shtuff much.

Have you tried putting onr of the old bearings back in to see if it was a new bearing issue or hub issue ? I had the same problem on one and it was the bearing was incorrect. Can't remember which supplier it came from.
Keep us posted.

Old bearing fell out when I removed the wheel from its box. New bearing fits exactly as the old one. Just slips in & out.

Well PayPal ruled in my favor, full refund. So I abide by their wishes and return the wheel. This is where things get kinda strange. I was tracking the package. PP just wanted delivery confirmation. Well its delivered @ 12:30 then around 1 states wheel is getting returned to me! I contact PP since I'm thinking something's amiss as I sure don't want to hassle with this any further and they basically tell me not to worry as all they want is a delivery. So now I get a full refund AND it appears the wheel returned. Sheez. Evidently the guy moved and left no forwarding address. And he refused to give me a partial credit I originally asked for and now this.

~Puzzled but happy.

Same thing happened to me awhile back, I purchased a '91 service manual(paid $48 for it!) did not receive it for a month many emails to seller with different excuses finally after 6 weeks PP says they will refund my money, same day seller emails me and says it was returned to him will ship out in a week or so(I had already bought another for $20) I tell him do not bother PP was refunding my money, He says alright, PP refunds my money and after over 2 months I receive the manual! he shipped it anyway, I offer to send it back and he has a fit bacause this time he has a delivery confirmation, PP says what I do with it is my business, they don't reverse decisions, he never responded to PP while this was going on, now I have two, He wouldn't pay for it to be returned, He charged $10 shipping in the first place!

Harry, at least by you still having the wheel, it won't end up back on Ebay to get passed on to any of us.

True but I would have definitely warned y'all if it had. I did note hornetgod13 bought an item from him and gave him a good rating. I believe he was batting 100% approval. It very well may have been a mistake on his part, I was just miffed on how he responded to my initial inquiry/request. His one response was the item was sold used and I should have asked questions! However this is from the ad:

YOU ARE BIDDING ON A REAR WHELL ASSEMBLY WITH HUG FOR A 1970 HONDA CT70. THIS ASSEMBLY ALSO COMES WITH NEW BRAKES AND BRAKE ROD. NEW TIRE AND INNER TUBE. NEW GEAR AND RUBBER, AND A RECONDITIONED RIM. THIS ENTIRE REAR WHEEL IS LIKE NEW. IT IS READY FOR MOUNTING ONTO YOUR BIKE.

I guess I was expected to ask if the bearings are seated correctly or falling out...
