Question Brake switch/wiring harness - 09-04-2008, 02:58 PM

Back again dudes with hopefully my last wiring question for the '70 CT70K0, The rear brake switch, OEM Honda, that I got from CHP or DrATV has an outside black plastic sheath the entire length of it, but from what I've seen in all the other bike photos, these wires are supposed to thread into the smallish hole on the frame a couple inches above the switch plunger above the brake pedal mount point. I intend to cut this sheath off so I can thread the wires into this hole into the interior of the frame and up to the wiring harness leads behind the battery, is that standard operating procedure? Why would they have this big bulky sheath on the harness if it has to go through the small hole? Plus, the connectors on the end of the brake switch leads (2 black wires) are one male and one female, yet the wiring harness leads are both female. Is it standard practice to then have to make up a male to male short length of cable to attach the female of the brake cable to the female on the wiring harness?

Sounds like you have the wrong switch.Check the part # with the supplier.
Wires should be green and red and just enough sheath to enter the frame.
Seems CHP sent me the same one for a z50 awhile back and claimed they no longer made one for the CT70.I got ahold of a different person there and he straightened it out.

Call or email them the part # to verify, unless you may have some aftermarket switch.

Glad I asked, it seemed a little off and my instincts served well this time.

Spent a few minutes on the phone with CHP and the phone guy says they don't have any proper switches, ordered one from TBParts.

FWIW, sometimes when you have a wire bundle with a sheath that is slightly too big for the hole you can trim the sheath at an angle and get it to feed through. Just don't trim the wires. And use a little silicone spray to make life easier.

You must have dealt with the same guy i had dealt with that said Honda didn't make them any more.I checked with Beth at NEVC and found they are still available. That's why it's best to give them a part # if you can.A lot of these guys could care less about going out of there way to gather the info needed for something they know nothing about for a bike that was built before they were even born.
I always try and contact Lyle (owner)at CHP when ever i order anything from them.
