So far it's been a good weekend, . . . - 09-06-2008, 11:01 PM

Maybe this weekend was to make up for the rough ones I've had lately. So far it has been like Christmas in September.

The first thing was that I won a fleaBay auction for a set of '94 CT forks. They looked a little rough, . . . maybe a touch of rust on the tubes and some scrapes in the lower legs, but not bad. My shipped price was under $25. When they arrived today I discovered that what I thought were rust and scrapes was actually dried on fork oil and some rattle can overspray, and once I cleaned them up they were close to perfect. Of course, the seals and dust caps will probably cost me another $25 but who's complaining?!?

Then came the icing on the cake. A friend from my distant past who once ran a little independent cycle shop called and asked if I'd be interested in any left over "junk" that he's collected over the years. He's been living in a town 150 miles from here and renting his house, and all of his "junk" was stored in his old shop building. Now he's selling the house and needs to clean out the shop. I said sure, and went to visit. First, he gave me a a real live, honest to goodness motorcycle lift, with the condition that I'd haul off a truck load of boxes of miscellaneous stuff. What he loaded into my truck was mostly junk, but I figured I'd sort it when I got home and toss what wasn't worth keeping. When I started sorting through it, the goodies I came across included:

- a box with 11 brand new Z50A intake valves, and 2 exhaust valves,
- an 82 link Z50A cam chain,
- about a dozen new sets of 041 points (fit most Honda minis, incl CTs, Zs, and little XRs)
- a complete Z50A top end gasket (factory, in the package),
- a factory Honda Z50A manual (c. 1970, more like a pamphlet!) in excellent condition.

There were other things, including 5 brand new knobbies, 3 of which will fit my dirt bikes, stacks of Honda factory manuals, and a bunch of new non-Honda parts, but the Z50 stuff was too cool.

Yeah, there are going to be some extra bags on the curb on trash day, and I didn't do the things I was planning on today, but I think it was worth it. Now if my fantasy football teams win tomorrow it will be perfect!
