engine compatibility charts needed - 08-24-2008, 11:34 PM

Does anyone have a frame to engine compatibility list?

i.e.

Z50 Frame allows Z50, CT 70 engine & ??
CT70 Frame allows CT70 & ??
CL70 Frame allows ??
CT90 Frame allows ??
CL90 Frame allows ??
S90 Frame allows ??
CL100 Frame allows ??
CB100 Frame allows ??

With uncommon bikes becoming available (i.e. a perfect CL90 Bike w/a bad engine), it would be good to know what other engines directly bolt to what frames for all of the Single piston honda's

Here's the Reader's Digest condensed version:

QA50s are their own little unique beastie, though they may be compatible with some of the really old pushrod horizontal singles.

OHC 50s (Z, XR, CRF) and 70s (ATC, C, CT, CL, SL, XL, TRX) should all interchange, though the electric starters on the C70s will get in the way of carbs on other bikes, and rope starter on a CT would be a bit odd, plus it sticks out and would be a pain. The S65 fits into this group as well. If you can ever find an S65 cam get it. It's the hottest cam that Honda made that will fit in these engines.

I'm pretty sure the mounting bolt pattern is the same on all of the 90s and 110s, but I don't know if the Hi-Lo gearbox on the CT90/110 has interference issues on S, CL, SL, or ST models.

All of the vertical 100s and 125s of the CB, CL, SL, and XL varieties up through 1978 will interchange.

That only covers the most common old (but not too old) stuff,

Just as clarification to what Miniac posted, all 72cc horizontals are based on the same 49cc lower end as the Z50 motor (the S65 falls into this category).

As I recall, the CT200 motor (90cc and used in what would become the CT90) will bolt into a CT70 frame. But, it's a really odd duck and won't run without a battery.

Also, the S65 cam is rumored to be what most vendors have offered as a "fast road cam". I suspect that it's the same grind used in the CL70, as well. It's likely worth an extra 1hp, but may require an increase in compression to really work in a CT70/Z50 application.
