Old tires are a mixed bag. If they're mint, not dried out, and date coded as originals vs replacements from later years, to a restorer they may be a "holy grail". However, rubber that old will probably not be as flexible as new, and would probably not be usable for a rider. If they're in great shape, though, to the right person they may be worth a premium.
For me, once a bike has been restored, and given the fact the Bridgestone Trail Wings are cheap, easily obtained and also correct, there would be no reason to pay more for them because I like to ride 'em. But if I had a nice, low mileage original bike needing some new rubber, I'd be interested. Some on this board feel a restored bike is as valuable as an original, but I don't agree. To the guys willing to actually spend the $$$, a mint original is and always will be worth more than a resto. I'd put them on eBay advertised as NOS and see what happens. You may find a buyer that just can't do without them...... |

Vintage tires are good for display only. Rubber gets old and turns into jerky
Can't imagine many who would be willing to shell out big bucks for NOS display tires, but you never know. It's the same scenario as 100-point restored vs NOS; the one that's worth the most is determined by actual selling price. You'll have to "raise the flag and see who salutes"... |
