Paint codes -
01-17-2008, 10:57 PM
I haven't been able to find paint codes but, go to minitrail70.com/store/ct70paint to find the whole kit. The color on the can in the picture is not accurate. Maybe I could duplicate the color in a picture or something. I've got a spare headlight bucket. Getting the correct color on film would be hard. I think your bike needs to be a 1970 ko to be correct. Good luck.

What kind of paint is in the kit? PPG or House of Color, or something else. I would think someone out there must have painted that color before and might have a name or number for their paint. House of color red and green is a stock candy color. I already have primer, base coat and clear by the gallon I really just need the candy.
Thanks Mike |

Mr Richard,
If you find the code, I need it also. I have a 1970H which it's original color was the blue-green candy but the old owner put a spray can to it. I'm trying to get everything together before I tear it down. |

The Honda paint number is PB2C Candy Blue Green. You can buy the paint from Color Rite which is a company the specializes is vintage motorcycle paints. They have both a west coast and east coast Dist. I called and asked for a qt. and was given a price of 127.00. They also have the base coat #1075 in stock. I decided not to buy from them because of the price. Instead I bought a touch up pen and had it matched for 76.00 a qt. I'll let you know how it turns out after I spray a base and candy. If it works I will post the formula and type of paint I used.

You're dealing with two moving targets. With candy colors, application counts just as much as pigments. That was just as true when Honda used them and blue-green is probably the single most difficult to match. Your goal is to match a color that will be tough to match exactly between pieces of the same frameset, going by OEM examples that have had 36-38 years to fade and varied by the piece right from the manufacturer.
Colorite is going to be the safest bet. The rest is more art (painting skill, lighting, & luck) than science (getting the exact pigments in the midcoat formulation). |

Ok here is what I have found out. All this information is from the guy I use to mix and buy my paint from here in Los Angeles. I explained the problem I was having to him and the fact that I didn't want to buy a qt. of paint from color-rite for 127.00. I told him the Honda paint code which was PB2C blue-green candy and the code Color-Rite gave me 2301. I was told first of all color rite doesn't make or mix paint they buy it and if they could buy it so could he. The next day he call me and said your paint will be here tommorrow and it was 21.00. He said he called Honda and ask for the paint formula. They don't make their paint Sem paint did and still does for some of the bikes. The Sem color was Aqua blue #3046 which is a candy concentrate that has to be mixed with a reducer and sprayed over a silver base which is also a Sem stock color. I didn't ask about the other colors (Red, and Green)because I already have a system in House of Color that I use and have good luck with. I hope this helps somebody I will spray the base and candy tommorrow and let you know how it turns out.
