I had an '83 Z50R when I was a kid and of course wished that I never sold it. Now that I have a son and another on the way I've started looking into motorcycles and found that the Z50s are no longer being made but there is a great following.
That being said, I found a few on craigslist and ended up buying 4 bikes last weekend. Here's what I got...
'81 Z50R - Running decent, ok condition
'81 Z50R - Running condition, missing float needle (ordered from Dr ATV)
'79 Z50A - Parts bike. No seat, tank, carb
'?? Ct70 - Rolling chasis
I would like to have one, a beater, for my son to learn on and rebuild the other '81 first, then on to the others. The wife's not exactly happy I bought 4 bikes, but they came as a package for under $600 so I couldn't pass it up.
My Questions:
Where do I start?
Where should I concentrate my $$?
I'm mechanically inclined and work on my cars as well as small engines, but I've never done a rebuild, how hard is it to rebuild these engines?
Should I do a rebuild by default or wait until the engine dies completely?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Look for more detailed ?s to come.
Thanks, Justin
