Ignition or carb? -
10-21-2008, 08:00 PM
'71 z50 k2 I just started putting the bike back together and got it running today. Only time I heard it run was when I bought it and we drove it out of the Flea market we bought it from earlier in the year. But it kept stalling etc...
anyway back together now after a cleanup/parts swapping, nothign on the motor though, etc.. it will idle fine all day long ( I tested this as I was trying to straighten out the lights/wiring) it will not ramp up smooth and falls on its face at WOT and does not like loads too terrible much. I did try 2 carbs with about the same results, put the needle ina few different positions with about the same results and have tried adjusting the carb a bunch of different ways. Brand new plug, gapped right and correct #. I did have problems with the points, I pulled the flywheel cleaned the rust on everything and cleaned/adjusted the points. It was fine at first and then the points ceased to fire again. I filed them again and got it going but I have to say the spark at the points seems kinda funky and the spark did not seem as crisp as before. So what do you think? Yes I know I should just replace the points anyway, and I probably will, just trying to get this project buttoned up. I was hoping to take it camping this weekend!
