Hi all,

I bought a second hand thumpstar for my son with a 125 Zongshen engine, the issue is when you try and start it with the kick start it slips and feels like something is not engaging. Sometimes if you do it slowly it will turn the engine over but not enough to start the engine.

If I bump start, it start first time but when iddling it feels like the gears want to engage, once you put it into gear it is ok.

I have tried adjsting the clutch without any success.

Any ideas

Welcome, alfie. You didn't say if your Zongshen is an auto clutch model but if it is you might find answers (or at least encouragement) at

I'm not sure I follow what your trying to say with, "it feels like the gears want to engage, once you put it into gear it is ok." Perhaps you could give us a little more detail?

I don`t know if it is auto clutch, it has a cable going into the cover onnthe engine and behind the cover there is a rod with a plate and adjustment screw and nut. It has 4 gears which have to be put into gear with the clutch on the handle bars.

If I bump start it and run it it is ok, it does not appear to be slipping?

When the bike is in neutral it feels as though it is trying to engage the gears, once you pull the clutch leaver and put into gear this resistance goes away.

If you was to try and start the bike with the kick start it slips but if you pull in the clutch and kick start it the kick start engages but obviusly the bike does nothing.
