Changing my 1986 ct into a street legal 1982 - 11-20-2008, 07:58 PM

well my 86 has no papers so i scored an 82 frame with papers for $125 bucks form a guy like 15 minutes away. I found the craigslist add searching ct70 through google and by chance found the add. Never used craigslist before and now i have papers!!!! I'm so excited. The paint is even pretty good so i can just swap parts after a good cleaning. Is my 86 frame worth anything? I presume they are pretty rare since nobody seems to know about them. The guy i bought my frame from didn't even know and he said hes had over 50 cts over the years. I will try to get some pic of everything before and after swaping frames.

I'd probably try to get the `86 titled. The rarity could well translate into cash at some point. Have to think that there is more than one completist collector who would just have to have one of the "missing years" models.

Try ITS Title to see if you can get papers on the 86.

For now i'm gonna swap all the parts off the 86 onto the 82 frame. Then i will check the vins off the frame with icbc and try to get a regi from the last owner. Now as for paint. the paint on the 82 is an orangy red color, which doesn't go well with the gold rims on my 86. The 86 i painted a more red red if you know what i mean. It was a different red than the 82 from factory, i painteded it a close match spray paint from canadian tire, it looks nice and goes well with the gold rims but the orangish factory paint looks weird. The original paint on the 82 is in ok shape I wasn't gonna paint it until i saw it beside my gold rims. My question is does it hurt my future resale value to paint it to match the other frame so it goes with the wheels?

Here is my 82 frame. I'm gonna paint it a nice red to go with my gold wheels. I have papers for this and will be riding it on the road.

finally got my camera working so here is my 86 ct70. It has 709km on it and runs perfect. Swapping everything on this bike onto the 82 frame which I have papers for. I'm painting the 82 frame the same color as this one.

I'm probably going out on a limb here....but. The odds of the Police checking the VIN number on your 86 bike with the paperwork #'s from the 82 are probably pretty slim to none.
As a former officer, my main concern was for current registration, current license and current insurance. If a owner had all of those items with them, then checking the frame VIN wouldn't happen. This would save you a ton of work transferring all the parts.
My .02 opinion.

I kinda thought about that too, but i figured better safe than sorry. I'm not really worried about switching the parts over. The frame on 86 is dented on the sides, the paint job isn't the best, and i'd like to repaint a couple other things too. It'll be fun. Anyone know why my back brake lever has a plastic cover on it. Should i keep it or take it off.

Is the plastic cover on the brake lever "peddle" itself? If it is plastic it was put on there by Honda when they shipped the bikes for protection. Kindof neat the dealer prep didn't remove it.

yah the brake lever has a clear plastic cover, just covering the grippy part where your foot contacts. Looks factory but serves no purpose, and makes it slippery when wet cause it covers the grip. I can pull it off easily and i'm goning to cause its probably dangerous, but I'll hang on to it.
